New clients will complete online forms, pre-screening, an in-home meet and greet, and create an online account. We’ll then schedule your dog’s trial hike, during which we’ll test out their behavior, trail etiquette, social, and recall skills.
Unfortunately not. We keep all dogs off-leash for the safety and enjoyment of all the dogs in the group.
No. Our dogs ride together in our personal vehicles, just as they do in your car! All adventure leaders have insured, reliable 4WD vehicles that are outfitted with interior protective gear. We can provide your dog with a seat belt upon request.
Yes, as long as you work within the City of Boulder and your dog is able to spend the day with you. We aren’t able to accommodate very specific pick-up or drop off times.
Nope. As long as your pup is agreeable, we’re happy to use a garage code, door keypad or other method of access to your home. If a physical key is the only option, we’ll provide you with a secure lockbox so that the copying of your key isn’t necessary.
Absolutely, we love our littles! Our clients can rest assured that all of our large and giant breed dogs are compatible with small dogs. If the snow is very deep where we’ll be going that day, we may recommend adjusting your service type to better accommodate your small pup.
Clients are always free to cancel due to inclement weather with no fee. Luckily, dogs love the cold and snow! We are an all weather service but reserve the right to cancel adventures due to extreme cold or blizzard or other unsafe driving conditions. The extreme cold usually only impacts our Mountain Adventures, in which case we may switch the dogs to a Town Adventure that day. In the summer, in addition to carrying plenty of water for the dogs, we always go to locations that have shade and/or a body of water for dogs to get wet. Our adventure leaders are trained to notice signs of any dog getting too hot, too cold, etc, and will shorten the hike as needed to accommodate them.
No. Unfortunately we are not dog trainers, but would be happy to refer you to some good ones! Our group leaders do encourage and reinforce good behavior skills that are already in place, but all dogs must enter the program already trained to hike off leash.
There is no charge for canceling more than 24 hours outside of your scheduled service time. A late change fee of $10 will be applied for cancellations or schedule changes within 24-hours of scheduled service time. Exceptions are made in case of injury, illness, emergency, or extreme weather. If your pet is not available when the BDA staff member arrives to perform scheduled service or if we are unable to access the home, this will be considered a “No Show” and the entire rate for that service is charged, regardless of whether or not the session is completed
By law, all pets under our care must have their current rabies vaccinations. Dogs participating in our off leash adventure program must also have current DHPP/combo vaccines. Bordetella vaccinations are not required but are recommended. We also highly recommend all dogs take regular heartworm and flea/tick prevention medication.
Assuming you have been through the setup process (above), Adventure spots are booked on a first come first serve basis. Because we limit group sizes our Adventures do fill up, and priority is given to those clients on a regular recurring schedule. If scheduling on an as-needed basis we require all schedule requests be submitted by Sunday of each week, and we do our best to accommodate the days/times you need. A $10 late change fee is added for services scheduled within 24 hours.
No, we have 3-5 different leaders who will get to know your pup! We can make an attempt to keep your pup with a primary leader, but your pup being familiar with multiple leaders ensures you’re covered when your favorite staff member is sick or out-of-town. We believe getting to know and experience a variety of different humans and dogs makes a dog more well rounded!
We hand pick the very best adventure leaders and dog walkers to care for your pets, and it shows! Our employees love their jobs and usually stick around for years, allowing us to maintain very low turnover rates. Our employees undergo a background and reference check. They are bonded and insured, pet first aid/CPR certified, and complete two weeks of online and hands-on training with our senior staff members. You can feel good about sending your pup with our extremely reliable, responsible, trustworthy, dog-loving caretakers.
For Town Adventures we utilize the City of Boulder Voice & Sight trails and other nearby dog-friendly areas. For Mountain Adventures we use other dog-friendly public areas in the Boulder foothills within 45 minutes of town.
Sometimes! We do our very best to return dogs in a clean state. Occasionally, however, dirty coats are inevitable, especially when it comes to our long haired friends or pups who enjoy rolling in gross things! If it’s very bad and you won’t be home, we’ll rinse and towel off your pup before putting them back inside.
Many factors go into the grouping of our dogs, a practice we fondly refer to as “schedule tetris”. Your requested service, day of the week, time preferences and the location of your home are the most pertinent factors, although compatibility with other dogs, size of your dog, energy level, and their abilities and interests play a role as well.
Yes! We love our kitty clients! We have a handful of staff members that specialize in cats and kitty visits for your peace of mind. We do require that our cat clients are solely indoor cats.
Services are offered on holidays on a very limited and circumstantial basis for an additional $10 per service. Weekend fees also apply for holidays that fall on Saturdays or Sundays. The following days are classified as holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.
